Arthur Ashe Boulevard Unveiling in Richmond, Virginia

The official dedication ceremony of Arthur Ashe Boulevard took place on Saturday June 22, 2019. 11 am – 12:30 pm on the front lawn of the Virginia Museum of History & Culture. The dedication included a ceremonial sign unveiling, remarks from local and state elected officials in addition to Congressman John Lewis.

According to their website, there was complimentary entry to the Virginia Museum of History & Culture on June 22, 2019. “Determined the 400-Year Struggle for Black Equality” exhibition also opened at the museum that day. It includes Ashe ‘68 Virtual Reality Experience and Ashe ‘68 Photo Exhibit.

Arthur Ashe won the Men’s Singles title at the US Open (formerly U.S. National Championship) in 1968. He was a native of Richmond and passed in New York February 6, 1993 at the age of 49.
